Abstract
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with blood-pressure control among the young-old and the old-old elderly with hypertension who are living alone.

Methods: A total of 287 elderly with hypertension who were living alone in the community dwelling and were aged 65 or over in Seoul were included. The structured questionnaires included health related characteristics, blood pressure level, Hypertension Belief Scale, self-care management of hypertension. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, x©÷-test, t-test, and logistic regression using the SPSS WIN18.0 program.

Results: The result from the univariate logistic regression analysis revealed that a number of children, education level, a number of accompanying diseases, and self-care behaviors were associated with blood-pressure control among the young-old. However, only the duration of hypertension was associated with blood pressure control among the old-old.

Conclusions: This study found that different factors are associated with blood-pressure control among the young-old and the old-old. Thus, health policy makers and health workers should provide age-specific hypertension management programs and strategies for elderly living alone.
